A very short interview... It is usual for the chairman of Prelude Classical Music Award jury to cloak himself in silence about the content of the motivations that underlie the various awards. A few years ago, by way of exception, he was prepared to answer by telephone a small number of questions, thus lifting a few corners of the veil. |

You do not publish an account with the considerations that played a role in awarding the Prelude Classical Awards. Could you explain why? "You will know that jury reports are often characterized by a huge level of fiddlestick. We want to avoid that risk. That is why." This year a number of categories have not been granted a Prelude Classical Award. What was the reason for that? "You must not present a prize just because you want to. For instance: the jury was not particularly waiting for the fifty-seventh version of the Brahms violin concerto." Isnt that putting it rather bluntly? "No, I dont think so. If such a recording does not add anything really new to the existing catalogue, why then grant it a prize?" |
